Century Pittsford Wines Honored by Market Watch Magazine

On Wednesday evening, September 17, Nicole Wegman attended a dinner in New York City where she was inducted as one of six 2008 Market Watch Leaders by the magazine of the same name.  Hosting the dinner was Marvin R. Shanken, chairman of M. Shanken Communications and publisher of Market Watch.  Shanken also publishes Wine Spectator and is widely regarded as a leading authority on wine and spirits.

An extensive article about Century appears in the magazine’s Leaders 2008 issue.  It says this about Nicole’s venture into the wine and spirits business:  “In the year since Nicole Wegman became owner of Century Pittsford Wine & Spirits (previously Century Liquor) in suburban Rochester, New York, she has more than doubled the store’s floor space to a whopping 45,000 sq. ft.  But even with that impressive achievement, Nicole modestly argues that she’s still learning.  If so, she’s fortunate enough to be coached by one of the country’s top retailers:  Century’s original founder, Sherwood Deutsch, who’s been a Market Watch Leader since 1986.”

This is the 25th year the magazine has honored a select group of inductees.  Sherwood Deutsch, who was interviewed for the Market Watch article, said about Nicole: “She’s presenting a completely new, different and fresh way of doing business.”

In addition to owning and operating Century, Nicole Wegman is responsible for the future wine business at Wegmans. “I am so thankful to have such knowledgeable and passionate people helping me along the journey to bring incredible wine and food together for our customers.”
